We are happy to announce multiple fully-funded MS/PhD research positions in biomechanics in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU) starting Summer or Fall 2022. The positions come with tuition and a competitive annual stipend. Preference will be given to PhD applicants, but strong MS applicants will also be considered. Applications received prior to January 15, 2022 will receive the highest priority, though applications will continue to be accepted until April 1. Feel free to share this opportunity broadly.
Dr. Jessica Allen, who leads the Neuromechanics of Mobility (NeuroMob) Laboratory (www.neuromoblab.com), is seeking students interested in using motion capture, electromyography, and musculoskeletal modeling and simulation to answer research questions about how the nervous system successfully controls movement and maintains balance in activities important for daily life and what goes wrong in persons with deteriorated musculoskeletal and/or neurological systems. These graduate research positions are supported by grants from NSF and NIH.
Dr. Stephen Cain, who leads the Advancing Wearable Systems for Out-of-the-lab Measurement and Evaluation (AWeSOME) Research Laboratory (https://stephencain.faculty.wvu.edu/), is seeking students interested in developing novel approaches and algorithms for meaningfully quantifying human movement in the real world to answer research questions about shoulder use in manual wheelchair users, gait of patients with knee osteoarthritis, and the biomechanics of eye dropper use, among other research applications. These graduate research positions are supported by grants from the NIH, American Cancer Society, Research to Prevent Blindness, and other fellowship opportunities.
