As a leading technical college in the region’s only public urban research university, the Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) at Old Dominion University (ODU), Norfolk, VA is an incubator for innovation and entrepreneurship. ODU is strategically located in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia – home of the largest naval base in the world and one of the largest concentrations of Department of Defense contractors in the US. ODU is a partner organization of Hampton Roads Biomedical Research Consortium (HRBRC) which includes Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Sentara Healthcare. The Biomedical Engineering Institute at ODU is composed of faculty members who are interested in the multidisciplinary field of biomedical engineering. We encourage big ideas and creative thinking as we help students discover new ways to solve real-world problems in a wide range of fields. Our student population is diverse in many dimensions – 15% of our students have a military affiliation, 28% of students are Black or Hispanic, and 44% of our incoming freshmen are first generation students.

BCET at ODU invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member starting in the Fall 2022 semester at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Applications from all areas of biomedical engineering (BME) are welcome, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise complements the program’s existing research and academic strengths. BME at ODU is an interdisciplinary program with affiliated faculty in multiple departments and research centers. Areas of special interest to the program include biomaterials, biomechanics, biomedical robotics, biomedical electronics, bioinstrumentation, biomedical neural networks, additive biomanufacturing, nanotechnology-based biosensing, cellular and molecular bioengineering, and biomedical modeling and simulation.

We welcome candidates who can contribute to the commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our academic community.
