The Rehabilitation Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Michigan (U-M) is looking for a talented and highly motivated applicant for postdoctoral research fellow. The post-doc will work on two Department of Defense funded projects related to assessing the effect of transfemoral prosthetic socket properties (i.e. trim-line, adjustability) on functional outcomes, user biomechanics, motor control and quality of life. Both projects are multi-site collaborations between Dr. Deanna Gates (U-M) and Dr. Noah Rosenblatt (Rosalind Franklin University). While this position will be physically located in Ann Arbor, MI, there will be opportunities for collaborations across the sites.
The research fellow will perform data collections and data analyses involving measuring muscle strength, EMG, response to perturbations, functional assessments, and 3D movement analysis (motion capture and IMU) of individuals with above-knee amputation. The research fellow will also gain experience in student mentoring, managing a multi-site clinical trial, manuscript writing and grant submissions. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position that is available now (start date is flexible).
Applications must have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. The ideal candidate for this position will also have substantial experience in human subjects experiments (motion capture, EMG, etc.), and a proven track record of high quality publications. Knowledge of biomechanics, clinical outcomes, signal processing, and statistics would be highly beneficial for this position. In addition to the technical skills outlined above, ideal candidates should have excellent analytical and problem solving skills and must thrive in both a team and individual environment. The candidate must also have strong organizational and communication skills.
