  • University of Pittsburgh Lab Manager Position

    The Biodynamics Lab within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is looking to hire a Lab Manager. We are looking for an individual with the following characteristics:

    This is a full time, in-person position (no remote work).

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Responsible for the day to day functioning of the lab
    • Perform phone screening, obtain informed consent, and process payments for research study participants
    • Coordinate research project testing around schedules of graduate students, medical students, post-docs, and full-time staff
    • Prepare the lab for data collection sessions and, when necessary, assist in laboratory data collection
    • Prepare IRB protocols and annual project reviews
    • Assist in the development of manuals of operation for large, multi-year research projects
    • Train, assist, and supervise students, residents, and research fellows working on research projects
    • Perform regular data backups
    • Edit and revise student abstracts and manuscripts
    • Maintain the lab website

    Facility and Equipment
    The Biodynamics Lab houses a high-speed biplane radiography system, a 12-camera motion analysis system, a dual-belt instrumented treadmill, a 14-channel wireless EMG system, and various pressure sensors. This equipment is used to measure in vivo joint kinematics, arthrokinematics, and kinetics during functional activities. More information about the lab can be found at bdl.pitt.edu.

    Qualifications
    The minimum requirement for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or math-related studies. Individuals with MS and higher degrees are also encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a history of excellent academic performance as well as demonstrated ability to learn new skills. The individual should have a demonstrated history of being a productive worker. Preference will be given to individuals with a science or engineering background who also have demonstrated the ability to write clear and concise scientific abstracts or manuscripts. The Lab Manager must be comfortable multi-tasking and he or she must be capable of learning new software and teaching others how to use the software. The individual must be comfortable performing basic mathematical calculations, manipulating data in spreadsheets, and creating charts and figures for presentations and publications. The individual must be comfortable working with a diverse group of MDs, PhDs, foreign fellows, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, departmental staff, and undergraduate students.
