The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) combines its three core tasks: research, higher education, and innovation within one mission. With about 9,400 employees and 25,000 students, KIT is one of the big institutions of research and higher education in natural sciences and engineering in Europe.

The Institute of Anthropomatics and Robotis (IAR) within the Division 2 – Informatics, Economics, and Society – with its KIT-Department of Informatics is seeking to fill, as soon as possible, the position of a

Professor (W3) for Optimization and Biomechanics
    for Human-Centred Robotics
(Endowed Chair of the Hector Foundation II)

We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist whose research and teaching activities focus on methods of mathematical optimization and machine learning for the analysis and modeling of the movements of humans and robotic systems, with the goal of improving the quality of interaction and cooperation between humans and robotic systems. In particular, research activities are expected in the areas of assistive robot technologies and humanoid robotics to support motor-impaired or elderly people. The professorship is supposed to further strengthen the existing research focus in human-centered robotics and anthropomatics at KIT and will therefore be integrated into the existing excellent experimental infrastructures in robotics as well as in sports science at KIT. The development of an internationally visible research profile as well as active participation in cooperative research projects is expected.

Participation in teaching in the German-language courses of the Department of Informatics, both in the mandatory and in the elective area, is expected.

The requirements for employment are outstanding, internationally visible scientific achievements, for example in the context of an excellent dissertation and subsequent scientific achievements, as well as a didactic aptitude. In all other respects, employment conditions as outlined in § 47 LHG (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) in conjunction with § 20 KITG (KIT-Act) in the version applicable until the legal validity of the 2. KIT-Weiterentwicklungsgesetz (2nd KIT Further Development Act) shall apply.

KIT is an equal opportunity employer. Women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified. The KIT is certified as a family-friendly university and offers part-time employment, leaves of absence, a Dual Career Service and coaching to actively promote work-life-balance.

Applications with the required documents (curriculum vitae, degree certificates as well as a list of publications) and a perspective paper (maximum of three pages) should be sent - preferably summarized in a single PDF file and by e-mail - to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Dean's Office of the KIT Department of Informatics, Am Fasanengarten 5, D-76131 Karlsruhe, dekanat@informatik.kit.edu by 04.03.2022.
