    The Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health and Human Development is seeking to hire a Research Technologist. The qualified applicant will work to assist with research projects and design including managing experiments and projects primarily within the Biomechanics Laboratory, but also supporting the Motor Control, Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, and Psychology of Physical Activity laboratories within the Department.

    The candidate should be able to apply standard scientific practices, techniques, and protocols as appropriate for specific situations (experiments). In addition, they should be able to identify and solve technical issues with equipment, analyze data, and recognize discrepancies in results. This position will also oversee lab equipment maintenance and usage (e.g., MTS Machine, force plates, motion capture camera system(s), treadmills, etc.), ensure compliance with Penn State Environmental Health and Safety standards, oversee laboratory safety procedures, train others on lab equipment and techniques, and perform other duties in managing and coordinating daily laboratory operations. In addition, assist in coordination for a cadaveric teaching lab and labs conducting animal-based research. Additionally, the candidate will assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory. Coordinate ordering, maintaining appropriate inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments/equipment handled in the operation of the lab. This person will keep lab databases and systems up to date.


    Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential. Other competencies critical to success in this position: excellent time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to work as part of a diverse team. This job will be filled as a level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience (Level 4 positions typically require a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred) and 10 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
