    USF Lab Engineer


    We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our growing team as the Lab Engineer in the USF Motion Analysis Laboratory at the School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida. The overarching goal of the lab's research help individuals of all ages to remain active and injury free throughout their lifetime. Our research is aimed at understanding the relationships between structure, mechanics and injury. We are also interested in developing strategies and interventions that help to mitigate injury risk. Our research encompasses imaging and modeling, as well as experimental studies.
    Job Responsibilities
    Ensures that the laboratory’s technical infrastructure (both hardware and software) remains in optimal working order. This includes ensuring that hardware is maintained and that software is up-to-date
    Writes custom software applications when needed.
    Assists with data collection for ongoing research studies (Vicon passive infra-red camera system, AMTI strain-gauge force plates, force sensing instrumented treadmill, electromyography, IMUs)
    Reduces data to graphical and other formats appropriate for the research question being addressed.
    Identifies new data collection and reduction techniques, and new areas of application for biomechanical analyses; assist with the development of associated new software and protocols for the laboratory.
    Assists with custom hardware design and manufacture and act as the liaison between the USF and local machine and electronic shops.
    Assists with IRB process including document submissions, renewals, etc
    Assists in overseeing undergraduate research interns working in the lab
    Oversees the scheduling of all laboratory activities
    Preferred Qualifications
    Masters’s degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering or related field. 2 years experience working in a motion analysis laboratory (mocap systems, force plates, IMUs).

    Technical Skills
    Proficiency in Matlab, labview, database software and operating systems.

    Behavioral Skills
    The candidate must demonstrate superior organizational, time management, and communication skills, as well as intellectual independence and initiative. He/she will protect confidential and sensitive research data with integrity. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.
