  • Research Engineer position at University of Florida Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Research Engineering at University of Florida Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

    https://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/j...0/engineer-iii

    Specific responsibilities will include:
    • Works with Director of Research, faculty and trainees to develop data collection protocols for movement analyses in healthy and special populations such as neurologic, amputation, adaptive athletes, degenerative musculoskeletal disease in children through adults. Monitors computer and equipment systems set-up for testing of participants in departmental programs and projects. Writes computer programing, creates new data flow processes from marker-less and marker-based motion analyses, inertial measurement sensors, image capture methods and emerging technology. Investigates and performs critical analysis of current literature on core specific technologies, performs advanced or data analysis for researchers using specialized data analysis software in a format useful for further statistical analysis or publication. Can independently run testing sessions for departmental projects.
    • Help develop and perform advanced data integration processes with the department and the other collaborators, such as artificial intelligence, mobile motion technologies, image capture in clinical settings. Help to develop new methods of human motion analyses in unique clinical populations and adaptive athletes. Establish new data collection methods using exoskeletons, electromyogram (EMG) activity, muscle force development and body-worn force sensors, balance and positional sense, lab and field testing of movement. Helps to construct specialty pieces of testing equipment or adapt existing equipment to capture data on physical activity. Will work with AI experts to help develop predictive models of musculoskeletal injury or physical outcomes. May evaluate, recommend and implement upgrade paths for new specialized computer systems software. Troubleshoot equipment failures, procures repair parts, implements repairs, supervises field technicians and engineers, tests equipment for proper function after repairs.
    • Participates in preparation of research papers related to core facility’s specialty that will be submitted for publication. Runs equipment testing and completes all safety testing as required. May assist with cost analysis and budgets of the facility. Performs administrative duties needed for a fee-for-service facility (such as data analysis and delivery).
    • Assists with trainee research projects. Provides training/guidance on using the laboratory equipment. Instructs on data capture, analysis, and interpretation.
    • Services, calibrates, and checks equipment for proper function. Performs preventative maintenance. Manages compliance with Environmental Heath and Safety and other institutional and governmental regulations.
Beginning salary is expected between $70,000-$75,000, commensurate with qualifications of finalist.
    EXPERIENCE
Minimum of MS degree, PhD preferred in biomedical engineering or related field and two years of field experience.
