The Human Systems Lab (https://www.hslab.org/jobs) at the University of Windsor is looking for highly motivated candidates for a PhD in Human Factors of Autonomous Driving and Cognitive Ergonomics with a start date of Fall 2023. The multidisciplinary research team led by Dr. Francesco N. Biondi has active projects in the fields of Transportation Human Factors, Cognitive Ergonomics, Cognitive Load Estimation and Fatigue Detection. The projects are funded via collaborations with both public and private partners.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Science, Kinesiology or related fields with a minimum 80% GPA in the last 2 years (required)
- Excellent English skills (written and oral) (required)
- Past experience conducting experimental and Human Factors studies. (required)
- Past experience in signal processing and machine learning. (preferred)
- Knowledge of R, Matlab, and Python (preferred)

Main duties and responsibilities
- Data collection using physiological, ocular, and behavioral metrics.
- Data processing using software such as R, Matlab, and Python.
- Dissemination of research findings at conferences and via publications
- Signal processing, data modeling, and machine learning

- Total funding available up to $71,717 for the duration of the program which is inclusive of:
o Graduate assistant scholarships (~$5,000/each).
o Competitive entrance scholarship of $7,500 for the first year (80% GPA required).
