  • 3 postdoc positions - Univ. of Utah (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA)

    Job Summary:

The Department of Health & Kinesiology at the University of Utah, College of Health, is seeking highly motivated candidates for up to three postdoc research associate positions. These positions are designed to prepare individuals for a research-focused career in academia or industry. The candidate will work with Dr. Kota Takahashi to conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary projects that bridge biomechanics, physiology, engineering and rehabilitation medicine. The candidate will participate in one of three extramurally funded research with a unifying theme in human locomotion and foot-ankle function:
    • Research Theme 1: foot-ankle robotics/prosthetics and gait biomechanics in individuals with a leg amputation
    • Research Theme 2: in-vivo muscle mechanics and energetics of foot-ankle in older adults
    • Research Theme 3: vascular physiology, thermoregulation and gait biomechanics in individuals with diabetes and leg amputation.
The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for multiple years based on performance and funding. Selected individuals will have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications and share project investigator roles in a manner commensurate with their experience and effort.

We are looking for candidates to start in Winter, Spring, or Summer 2023 (start date is flexible).
The review of applications will begin on September 23, 2022, and will continue until the positions are filled.

    Responsibilities:
    • Perform self-directed research and work within an interdisciplinary team consisting of biomechanists, physiologists, clinicians, and statisticians.
    • Demonstrate effective communication skills, write manuscripts for publications in scientific journals, and present research at national meetings
    • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students as part of the research team
    Minimum qualifications:
    • Ph.D., in biomechanics, engineering, kinesiology, physiology, or a related discipline.
    • A track record of peer-reviewed publications
    Preferred qualifications:

    For Research Theme 1:
    • Proficiency in robotics, mechatronics, or prosthetics research
    • Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink and Visual3D
    • Proficiency in 3D movement analysis (e.g., motion capture, force platforms)
    • Experience working with individuals with amputation desired, but not required
    For Research Theme 2:
    • Proficiency in muscle-tendon biomechanics and energetics research
    • Proficiency in Matlab and Visual3D
    • Proficiency in 3D movement analysis (e.g., motion capture, force platforms)
    • Experience with musculoskeletal imaging (e.g., B-mode ultrasound)
    For Research Theme 3:
    • Proficiency in vascular physiology or thermoregulation research
    • Proficiency in in-vivo vascular analyses (e.g., doppler ultrasound, NIRS)
    • Experience working with individuals with diabetes and/or amputation desired, but not required
    Application:
    The application should include:
    1. A cover letter that clearly indicates which of the three Research Themes the candidate wishes to pursue, and their experience, interests and suitability for the desired Research Theme. If the candidate wishes to be considered for more than one Research Theme, please rank them in the order of your interests.
    2. Curriculum vitae
    3. Two sample publications
    4. Information for three professional references (references will only be contacted for finalists)
