The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position in the area of Human-Centered Robotic Technologies.
The successful candidate must have a PhD with evidence of an active research program within the area of human-centered robotic interaction and implementation. This area spans from exoskeletons for occupational applications to fundamental investigations of clinical applications of robotics. We welcome applications from individuals across a range of possible disciplines and research themes including, but not limited to: ergonomics, clinical biomechanics, performance enhancement, rehabilitation, or assistive robotics. Individuals planning to develop or having both a fundamental and applied focus of research are particularly encouraged to apply. Primary duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students. Candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of scholarly research, evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching. In addition to advancing a personal research program, candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of multidisciplinary teams. Research opportunities exist not only within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences and its new 20,000 ft2 Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE), but also within associated research clusters including the Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorder (CRE-MSD), Waterloo’s robotic research facility (RoboHub), Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology (CBB), and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA). There are extensive opportunities for collaborative multidisciplinary research in Health and Engineering with dedicated CRC research clusters and the CERC in Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Intelligence.
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences is an inter-disciplinary department with expertise spanning the scientific study of human movement. A main focus of the department is to discover and explain mechanisms and principles of human movement and to apply this knowledge to the prevention of illness and injury using strategies that optimize health and physical performance. The department offers a B.Sc. degree in Kinesiology, MKIN, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
