    General Information

    Chapman University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. The University seeks an experienced and innovative leader with the vision to advance the Department’s educational and scholarly agenda while sustaining a culture of rigorous, personalized DPT training.

    Continually accredited since 1928, the Department of Physical Therapy has a rich tradition as one of the oldest physical therapy programs in the United States. The program graduates two cohorts of forty students each year. Facilities within the Department of Physical Therapy feature advanced motion analysis and Motek/GRAIL laboratories and include a comprehensive range of biomechanical, neurophysiological, and cardiovascular research tools.

    The Department of Physical Therapy is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The campus is also the home of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences (Brain Institute), offering additional outstanding facilities for neurophysiological and neuromodulation research. The Rinker campus is strategically located near numerous healthcare institutions, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies.     Qualifications

    Minimum requirements:
    • Terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D. EdD, D.Sc., or equivalent) in a relevant movement or health science, such as rehabilitation science, biomechanics, neuroscience, or other translational health research field.
    • Current licensure as a PT, or eligibility for licensure in California.
    • At least 6 years of full-time experience in a higher education setting, including at least 3 years as a full-time faculty member in an accredited DPT program.
    • Prior administrative experience in a DPT program including knowledge of CAPTE accreditation and curricular development processes.

    Preferred characteristics:
    Preference will be given to candidates with established research agendas and a history of extramural grant funding. Strong candidates will demonstrate excellence in personnel management, and a commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion within the physical therapy student body and the profession more broadly.

    Responsibilities
    • Interface with institutional, professional, regulatory, and community partners.
    • Provide strategic leadership to Departmental faculty and staff for management of curriculum, clinical education, scholarship, service, admissions, and assessment.
    • Prepare and oversee the Departmental budget and advocate for Departmental needs.
    • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
    • Strengthen the scholarly productivity of the Department by mentoring and supporting faculty in obtaining extramural funding and by facilitating inter-professional collaboration within and beyond the University.
    • Teach in area(s) of expertise in the DPT program.

This position is subject to final budget approval. The salary range for this Associate or Full Professor position is $200,000 - $215,000.
