The Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2023.
Human Performance (Provost’s Sport and Wellness Initiative). The goal of this position is to enhance department expertise related to human athletic performance. The ideal candidate will address complex problems related to human performance using innovative and applied solutions in human subjects that will provide generalizable benefits to people across ages, abilities, and health. They will contribute to transdisciplinary collaboration in education and research efforts at the UO such as the Sport and Wellness Initiative.
Athletic or Sports Performance, Medicine, and Wellness. The goal of this position is to enhance department expertise related to athletic or sports medicine and wellness. The ideal candidate will address complex problems related to performance, injury, rehabilitation, or injury prevention using innovative and applied solutions in human subjects that will provide generalizable benefits to people across ages, abilities, and health.
Desirable areas of expertise for either position includes: Focus on health and performance in female or adolescent athletes; Sex differences in training and adaptation to stress; Nutrition in sport and wellness; Integrative physiology or neuromechanical function of athletic performance; Environmental factors in sport and wellness; Data-based approaches to enhance sport performance and wellness; Novel assessments and interventions for accelerated return to play after injury; Assessment, prevention, and rehabilitation of sports related musculoskeletal injuries; Movement dysfunction in athletes.
Both positions include a competitive start-up package, research-appropriate laboratory space, and a collaborative research environment. Department Summary
The Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine, allied health professions, and biomedical research. The department has strengths in cardiovascular, respiratory and muscle physiology, neuroscience/motor control, cell signaling and metabolism, and biomechanics. Human Physiology has strong partnerships with university athletics, the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, and is aligned with a new Provost’s initiative on Sport and Wellness. The department is strongly committed to inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.
Minimum Requirements

- PhD in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Nutrition, Human Performance, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, Motor Control, Physiology, or related field
- 2 years postdoctoral research experience
- Promising publication record
- Experience with grant writing
- Experience with university-level teaching
