Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is searching for TWO tenured / tenure-track positions in Biomedical Engineering. One at the Assistant Level, and one more senior level (tenured) position at the Associate or Full, for our Peura Professorship. I have included brief descriptions of each position below, along with the common text that describes our department.

1. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (tenure track):

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) (www.wpi.edu/+BME) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with appointment at any level, to begin during the 2023-2024 academic year. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in BME or a closely related discipline by the beginning of employment. Applicants must show potential for an innovative and sustainable career that integrates and balances research and teaching. Outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests in any area of BME are welcome to apply.

Ideal candidates will have interests that are complementary to, or synergistic with, the department’s existing research areas and will be able to contribute to our teaching mission. Our Departmental areas of strength include biomechanics, computational modeling, biomaterials, tissue engineering, disease modeling, robotic surgery, advanced biomanufacturing and bioMEMs, coupled with a strong interest in examining health disparities and the social factors that influence biomedical design and implementation. 2. PEURA PROFESSORSHIP (Associate or Full / Tenured):

Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for the endowed Robert and Carol Peura Professorship in Biomedical Engineering (BME). This prestigious professorship, the first of its kind in BME, will be made at the Associate or Full Professor level. Outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests and a Ph.D. in any area of BME or related discipline are welcome to apply. Areas of special interest to the department include neuroengineering, biomedical robotics, biomedical artificial intelligence, medical systems biology, additive biomanufacturing and nanotechnology-based biosensing. Ideal candidates will have interests that are complementary to, or synergistic with, the department’s existing research strengths (biomechanics, biomaterials, biosensors, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, robotic surgery, advanced biomanufacturing, and bioMEMs), and will value innovation, creativity, diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research, excellent teaching, and established leadership. BME faculty members are expected to effectively balance research, teaching, and service, including mentoring student projects at the undergraduate, Masters and doctoral levels.
