    The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Research Specialist at the Center for Applied Biomechanics.



    The successful candidate will be expected to perform and manage complex experimental projects, create designs for the fabrication of mechanical test fixtures that interface with our test systems, summarize data results from an experimental test series in project reports, perform in-depth literature reviews on given topics, and detail the results in written narratives suitable for inclusion in a scientific paper or report. The Research Specialist will assist in the development of new research projects and will work alongside graduate research assistants, and technical staff on project-specific tasks.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master's or terminal degree required
    • Five years of specialized experience required



    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A M.S. in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
    • Applicants should be proficient in mechanical and/or systems design and should possess experience in the operation and functionality of data acquisition systems. Experience should include the following:
      • Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.
      • Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Matlab);
      • Experience with mechanical design, including proficiency with computer aided design (CAD) software (e.g. SOLIDWORKS).
    • ​A working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work well as a member of a team



    Responsibilities will include participating and managing project tasks related to injury biomechanics experimental research. The candidate will have an active role in the design and execution of experiments involving cadaveric materials.



    Duties will include direct involvement in project planning and execution, data collection, data analysis, academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, and collaboration with academic, industrial, and government research partners.
