  • PhD studentship in cerebral palsy physiotherapy (Liverpool, UK)

We are pleased to advertise this opportunity for a fully funded PhD studentship: Establishing equitable physiotherapy practices for children with cerebral palsy pre- and post-surgical intervention at Liverpool John Moores University on FindAPhD.com

    Project summary
We will work with children with CP (undergoing/have undergone surgery) and their parents to design and assess new physiotherapy approaches that improve healthy equality and outcomes from physiotherapy and surgery.

Mixed methods will be used across muscle mechanics, physiotherapy and qualitative research. We will first follow a group of children with CP for one year through their surgery and physiotherapy to establish which factors determine each child’s physiotherapy, and how these impact strength, mobility and function as treatment outcomes. We will then use focus groups with children, families and physiotherapists to co-produce new approaches and solutions to improve clinical outcomes and participation in physiotherapy. Finally, we will trial the potential of these solutions to improve physiotherapy and outcomes for all children with CP.

The project is a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University, Edge Hill University, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and community physiotherapy teams. Multidisciplinary supervision and training will be provided by the highly experience team.

For further details interested candidates may contact Dr Thomas O’Brien (Director of Studies) at t.d.obrien@ljmu.ac.uk.
