    Job Description


    
    Oversee the daily operations and perform a variety of supervisory and technical duties in support of the instructional and research activities at Ithaca College's Movement Analysis and SIM Laboratory. Work creatively with faculty and students to apply engineering solutions to research problems providing direct assistance, guidance and training on the use of laboratory equipment.

    Reports To: Report to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance

    Job Duties
    1. Oversee daily operations of the Movement Analysis and SIM Laboratory to include providing direct assistance to faculty and students in the preparation, testing, operation, and maintenance of electrical/electronic laboratory equipment such as the Motion Capture Systems (Vicon), EMG (Delsys-Trigno), Force plates (Kistler/AMTI), pressure platform (Tekscan Strideway), Isokinetic Dynamometer (Biodex) and CAE SIM mannequins.
    2. Assemble, test, operate, maintain and repair electrical/electronic laboratory and specialized research equipment related to kinematic, kinetic, electromyography and simulation systems and their associated software.
    3. Provide training and technical assistance to faculty, staff and students in the overall operation of the laboratory facilities.
    4. Prepare the laboratory facilities for research and classroom projects. Set up and operate equipment during instructional sessions; instruct students in the use of equipment and help guide them in the completion of assigned projects; assist faculty in the evaluation of student achievements in the laboratory.
    5. Consult with faculty on equipment needs; research available products, equipment and apparatus; purchase agreed upon items.
    6. Maintain the laboratory’s budget while continuing to restock consumables (tape, markers, pre-wrap, etc.) and purchasing new equipment as needed.
    7. Maintain the lab calendar, and those who have permissions to edit it, to ensure that any faculty, staff, or students who wish to utilize the lab may do so without double-booking the spaces.
    8. Ensure proper functioning and utilization of research equipment and software used in data collection, data reduction and in the overall preparation of data for analysis.
    9. Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of laboratory equipment and software.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field, a strong background in biomechanics and previous research experience; strong working knowledge of computers and system software, ability to assemble, test, repair and operate electrical/electronic equipment; knowledge of electromyography, kinematic and kinetic systems and associated software; strong attention to detail, analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with the research team. Master's degree preferred.
