Postdoctoral Fellow Recruitment Opportunity
Neurophysiology / Biomedical Engineering / Neurorehabilitation
The Rehabilitation Engineering for Neuromotor Control (REIGN) Lab (Dr. Jinsook Roh) and the Neuromodulation and Recovery Lab (Dr. Dmitry Sayenko) seek a postdoctoral fellow with a degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, and Neurorehabilitation, including invasive and non-invasive spinal cord electrical stimulation. This position will be supported by the NIH T32 NeuralCoDR program (https://www.houstonmethodist.org/education/research/neuralcodr/). Drs. Roh and Sayenko will co-mentor the finalist.
The project will be focused on examining the spinal contribution to abnormal intermuscular coordination after stroke by using a synergistic combination of biomedical engineering tools such as transcutaneous spinal stimulation, operant conditioning as corticospinal neuromodulation, signal processing, and robotics.

Opportunities for collaboration with clinicians and scientists on existing research projects, including robot-aided rehabilitation, multi-modal quantification of motor impairment, neuromodulation, and neuroimaging, are available. The postdoctoral fellow will become a part of a dynamic environment within the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Houston, the Center for Neuroregeneration at Houston Methodist Research Institute, and the Department of Neurosurgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. These institutes are focused on interdisciplinary research programs that span the interface between sensorimotor neuroscience and neurorehabilitation. Neural Engineering and Neurorehabilitation is one of the three focuses in the Department of the BME at the University of Houston (http://www.bme.uh.edu/). Houston Methodist is housed within the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world's largest Medical Center, which was formed with a focus on innovation and research.
Eligibility Requirements:
• A US citizen or permanent resident (NIH T32 requirement)
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Must demonstrate the capability to work independently and with our joint team
• Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and prepare research manuscripts and funding proposals
• Participate in research activities and contribute to the excellence of the environment at the University of Houston and the Houston Methodist Research Institute
Experience and Requirements:
Candidates with a published track record in neurophysiology, neurorehabilitation, or biomedical engineering research are highly preferred. Expertise in at least one of the following: electrophysiology, neurostimulation, or motor control, is required.
