The Rice Computational Neuromechanics Lab directed by B.J. Fregly is seeking to hire a PhD student and a post-doctoral researcher, with each appointment beginning as soon as possible.
We are seeking creative and highly-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively in teams composed of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.
For the PhD student position, the ideal candidate will hold a BS degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, have significant computer science or programming experience with a love for programming, and some research experience in musculoskeletal modeling with OpenSim.
For the post-doctoral researcher position, the ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, a research focus on neuromusculoskeletal modeling, simulation, and optimization using OpenSim, and extensive experience programming in Matlab.
Both candidates will (1) contribute to the development, evaluation, and testing of easy-to-use computational software for performing model personalization and treatment optimization utilizing neuromusculoskeletal computer models created in OpenSim and Matlab, (2) use the software to develop personalized neuromusculoskeletal computer models and design optimal personalized surgical and neurorehabilitation interventions, and (3) assist with the organization of an annual “Stroke Grand Challenge Competition” to be held at the American Society of Biomechanics annual conference. The post-doctoral researcher will also be expected to aid in the supervision of PhD students, writing and editing of journal manuscripts, and drafting of research proposals and grant progress reports.
