We have an opportunity for a Motion Analysis Center (MAC) Engineer (or related education). This position is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, calibrating and maintaining computer systems and devices used for the acquisition and analysis of kinematic, kinetic, electromyography, and pedobarographic data. Works closely with physical therapists to assess posture and movement patterns for children with neuromuscular, skeletal and other pediatric orthopaedic issues.
Also responsible for coordinating/scheduling of patients. Interfaces with hospital information system and participates in clinical research.
Shriners Children’s Springfield MAC is one of fourteen MAC within the Shriners Children network. This position will include mentorship and collaboration with our network of MAC that includes 6 PhD and 4 Masters level engineers. Our goal is provide the best state of the art clinical care while developing best practices for the pediatric population.

Bachelor’s degree in biomechanical engineer, biomedical engineer, kinesiology, exercise physiology, a related field is required, Masters Degree or higher preferred
2 years plus experience in a Motion Analysis Laboratory setting strongly preferred but not required. Willing to train an exceptional new grad.

Plans Data Collection:
- Works collaboratively with motion analysis staff to determine data required for motion assessment and selects appropriate sequence for testing.
- Set up data acquisition, test and movement equipment and accessories for every evaluation.
- Confers with motion lab therapist to plan assessment and review unusual or unfamiliar testing procedures.
Performs Quality Assurance Testing:
- Performs quality assurance protocols at their designated frequency.
- Performs quality check and calibrations of motion lab equipment, including EMG system, infra-red cameras, foot pressure mapping system and force plates.
- Participate in on going quality improvement projects and clinically appropriate research projects
Implements Daily Back-up
- Implements a daily backup strategy for all critical patient data.
- Updates and maintains labs software required for data acquisition and local database for processing/storing collected data.
- Assists the Physical Therapist with clinical examination of strength, range of motion and motor control.
- Performs all data collection with patients
- Processes all required data including EMG, kinematics, kinetics, and pressures.
- Analysis all collected data for artifacts and ensures clinical data quality
