Associate Dean for Education and Innovation position
Application review starts January 27, 2023

The College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Education & Innovation. We seek an innovative administrator who can provide direction for the development of new educational programing (e.g., online, interprofessional, etc.) to meet the health science workforce needs of today and in the future, as well as supporting and enhancing our current programming. As a newly minted R1 university, we want a visionary to join our team who can synergize our expansive research growth with formal and informal educational opportunities, in concert with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We have lots of exciting things happening here at ODU, including a structural reorganization in our College of Health Sciences that will be comprised of a new School of Kinesiology and Health Science, School of Rehabilitation Sciences (which will include programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, and recreational therapy), School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, School of Medical Diagnostic & Translational Sciences, and School of Dental Hygiene. We will be moving into the newly constructed Health Sciences Building on Fall 2023. We are also standing up our new School of Public Health and have a proposed integration with Eastern Virginia Medical School that would lead to the largest academic health sciences center in Virginia, which our College of Health Sciences would be a part of. All of these moves are being spearheaded by our dynamic President Hemphill.

    Visionary Responsibilities:
    1. Serve as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team, formulating policy and strategic direction for education and innovation.
    2. Explore ways that the College of Health Sciences can enhance our online education presence, including leveraging the structure and resources of ODU Global.
    3. Develop ways to leverage ODU’s position as a forward-focused and innovative R1 institution located in an urban setting to elevate the educational enterprise for students and faculty in the College of Health Sciences.
    4. Support current diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts and develop new pathways to infuse DEI practices and learning opportunities into the formal and informal educational spaces within the College of Health Sciences.
    5. Work with leadership from other ODU Colleges/Schools to coordinate and expedite multidisciplinary and/or interprofessional educational opportunities.
    Oversight Responsibilities:
    1. Graduate and Undergraduate Program Oversight to include:
      • Catalog and curricular changes
      • Managing student grievances and appeal processes
      • Representation at recruitment events in coordination with UPD’s/GPD’s
      • Review of Accreditation materials and external review processes
      • Oversight of certification of faculty for graduate instruction

      • Graduate Administrator’s Council
      • Council of Associate and Assistant Deans (CAAD)
