    Position Summary: The Department of Kinesiology is seeking a post-doctoral student or a full-time research professional. We seek a highly motivated individual with an interest in working with children with cerebral palsy. The position is a 1 year appointment, which may be extended with continued funding. The position is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. Primary responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day activities of a randomized controlled trial examining the effect of a daily vibration treatment on muscle development, physical activity and balance in chidlren with cerebral palsy. The Research Professionals will perform a broad range of management, administrative and technical duties that facilitate the success of the project. Testing will involve dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, muscle strength assessment, electromyography, balnce assessment, physical activity monitoring, blood analysis and other health related assessments.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ph.D. in a health-related field (e.g., exercise science, kinesiology, biomedical engineering, biology) OR equivalent combination of master’s degree plus skills and research experience (e.g., working with clinical trials, institutional review boards, and biomedical technology, such as motion capture systems, electromyography, dynamometry, ultrasonography, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, functional near-infrared spectroscopy, and phlebotomy).
    • Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.
    Duties/ Responsibilities:
    • Assistance in overseeing testing for a randomized clinical trial focused on children with cerebral palsy. This will involve regular weekend testing and working in conjunction with a research coordinator, technicians, and student research assistants. Active role in recruitment for children with cerebral palsy and typically developing controls. This may involve active community outreach to improve recruitment rates and relationships with organizations that serve children.
    • Management of clinical and student staff and communication with research collaborators. Assisting the research coordinator with organization of events.
    • Assisting with preparation of grant proposoals, manuscripts and presentations.
    • Management of samples, research data, and supplies. Active role in data collection and analysis.
    • Develop scientific protocols to assess motor function, brain activity, and/or musculoskeletal development in children.
