The research group led by Prof. Paulo Fernandes, at Instituto de Engenharia Mecanica (IDMEC - Instituto Superior Tecnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal), is currently seeking for potential candidates interested in the following research areas:
- Spine Biomechanics
- Design in Tissue Engineering
- Ocular Biomechanics
In detail, the research group is looking for new members interested in projects related to computational modelling of implants and tissues of the abovementioned areas.
Potential projects can go from the development of lumbar fusion devices to the implementation of constitutive models to simulate the aging of the Human lens complex.
Below you can find some recently published works from the group:
Pires et al. 2022 - Wall Shear Stress Analysis and Optimization in Tissue Engineering TPMS Scaffolds (https://doi.org/10.3390/ma15207375)
Godinho et al. 2021 - Computational modeling of lumbar disc degeneration before and after spinal fusion (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.clinbiomech.2021.105490)
Castro et al. 2020 - Micromechanical Behavior of TPMS Scaffolds for Bone Tissue Engineering (https://doi.org/10.1002/mame.202000487)
This preliminary round intends to select potential applicants to the scholarship programme promoted by Fundaca para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (Portugal). The potential candidates shall have completed a master’s degree and be interested in proceeding to PhD studies (candidates with a previous PhD degree will not be accepted). The 2023 call of this programme shall be open for applications in March.
A second research programme promoted by FCT is dedicated to the employment of researchers with a PhD degree. The 2023 call of this programme shall be open for applications in April (https://www.fct.pt/en/calendario-de-concursos-fct-2023/). These scholarships/contracts are expected to start in the end of 2023/beginning of 2024, depending on the announcement of the results.
The potential candidates shall send a short CV (maximum of 2 pages). This CV shall include the academic degrees obtained so far (or to be obtained until the deadline of the call) and the track record of publications in peer reviewed international journals and presentations in international conferences.
Please send a motivation letter as well, including the intended research topic and the contact of 2 academic references (maximum of 1 page).
These documents must be written in English and the deadline is 20 February 2023.
Please be aware that this preliminary round is by no means a job offer; no research funding is being offered at this stage.
The rules of these programmes must be strictly followed by the candidate, for the application to be accepted by FCT.
At this stage, the research group will provide support to the applications of up to 4 candidates.
