    Actively Recruiting. 1 Position remaining!

Postdoctoral Position working with Dr. Chris Connaboy examining human performance optimization and injury risk mitigation in Warfighter, NASA, and other populations. The position is open now. For more information reach out to Dr. Connaboy at (christopher.connaboy@rosalindfranklin.edu). To apply for the position please use the link at the bottom of the page

    Postdoctoral Position

The Human Performance Laboratory and Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR) at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of motor control and biomechanics of human movement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human movement sciences, engineering, biomechanics, and/or kinesiology/exercise/sport science, as it relates to both performance optimization and injury risk assessment. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Chris Connaboy.

The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of our research program including project conception, experimental design and execution, and will receive broad training and mentorship as they progress on to the next stage of their career. They will have the opportunity to supervise and mentor graduate students and research assistants, and will be required to manage and execute the timely dissemination of research results via publications and presentations. Travel to field sites to collect data, and disseminate research findings may be expected. The candidate must be proficient in programming (either Python/R/MATLAB), and have a demonstrated publication history. Experience with IMU data analysis and signal processing of wearable data is a plus.

    Who We Are

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS), is located in the city of North Chicago, Illinois, between the thriving cities of Chicago and Milwaukee at the northeast corner of Illinois. RFUMS’s main campus is home to a richly diverse community. It is the only graduate health science university in the United States proudly named after a woman scientist. The university embodies the spirit of inquiry and excellence modeled by its namesake Dr. Rosalind Franklin. RFUMS is comprised six postgraduate health profession schools and colleges, including the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine which houses CLEAR.

Founded in 2004, CLEAR’s mission is to make measurable improvements in the health and function of the lower extremities by using multidisciplinary approaches to: biomedical engineering, clinical & basic sciences, and health services. CLEAR serves as one of the nation’s most productive and well-known interdisciplinary podiatric research centers as evidenced by its exemplary publication record in diverse journals and a history of industry and federally funded projects from agencies including the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the American Diabetes Association.

Ongoing research efforts within CLEAR are focused on: biomechanics of locomotion; fall-risk assessment; fall-prevention; human performance optimization; diabetic wound healing; promoting mobility across diverse populations including older adults, patients with diabetes, patients with traumatic brain injury, patients with obesity, and patients with lower extremity amputation; injury prevention; material testing of prosthetic and orthotic devices.

Much of the research within CLEAR is performed within The Human Performance Laboratory, a state-of-the-art 1800 sq ft facility fully equipped to support all research needs. The lab currently houses a 16-camera motion capture system with markerless capabilities (Theia3D), 5 Kistler force plates, a Motek instrumented C-Mill treadmill, Biodex dynamometer, Instron material testing system, a Gaitrit system, a Pedar plantar pressure system, an Emed pressure mat, a portable calorimetry system, and ADPM full body OPAL sensors.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be to help:-
    • Coordinate and contribute to the activities of a recently funded Department of Defense project examining the integration of data from multiple wearable devices to capture ‘movement biomarkers’ related to system health, and the identification of injury risk factors in the warfighter:
      1. Collaborate and coordinate with industry partners/ Machine Learning Analysts to facilitate data interpretation
      2. Liaise with partner sites to organize and arrange visits
    • Contribute to an ongoing NASA funded, interdisciplinary study examining the efficacy of affordance-based metrics to assess behavioral risk in isolated, confined and contained/extreme environments:
      1. Coordinate with collaborating organizations to ensure continued data collection at remote sites
      2. Manage data transfers from collaborators and NASA
      3. Maintain and update database of participant data
      4. Conduct statistical analysis and data interpretation
    • Pursue any independent research projects as agreed with Dr Connaboy.
    • Supervise and mentor the lab activities of graduate students and research assistants as required.
    • Manage and execute the timely dissemination of research results via publications and presentations
    • Travel to field sites to collect data
    • Disseminate research findings

    Conditions of Employment
    • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
    • Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination with booster or a university approved exemption
