Sanford Sports team is looking for someone with wide-ranging expertise in applied biomechanics to join our team and enhance our Player Development and Performance Science processes.
This individual will play a leading role in helping various stakeholders, such as Sports Academy Coaches, Strength and Conditioning staff, the Sports Medicine department, Physical Therapy, as well as community partners, use and implement biomechanical data to optimize athlete performance and health
• Collect, analyze, maintain, and communicate Performance Science data from a variety of data sources (on and off-field) in a digestible, applicable manner
• Your primary responsibility will be data collections – preparation of collection space and supplies, athlete conversation, operating data collection equipment, etc
• This person will be crucial to integration with Sanford strategic partners including Sports Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Sanford Wellness, Surgery and Trauma teams, to develop pathways for implementing biomechanics data and research into their respective processes
• Lead responsibility to validate equipment and establish corresponding data collection protocols
• Manage and execute internal research and innovation projects to deliver insights capable of maximizing athlete performance or wellness
• Integrate Performance Science data with on-field performance data to improve individual athlete development plans or existing athlete evaluation models
• Lead the process of designing, evaluating, and rolling out Sanford Sports initiatives and driving business development

Independently performs and leads others in biomechanical engineering endeavors and regularly provides guidance to the use of technologies, theories, concepts, and techniques within this area of expertise.
Job Description
Independently performs biomechanical testing, consultations, modeling, technology / device development, and analyses relating to human biomechanics including but not limited to biotribology, biofluid mechanics, comparative biomechanics, computational biomechanics, ergonomic biomechanics, musculoskeletal and orthopedic biomechanics, occupational biomechanics, rehabilitation, and sports biomechanics.
Oversees and maintains biomechanics laboratory operations and equipment. Manages lab supplies, maintains equipment, and troubleshoots technical problems. Coordinates shared space and resource utilization with other team members. May plan and coordinate tours, events, and education outreach opportunities. Leverages expertise to support media, publications, educational materials, and marketing.
Builds, leads, and/or participates in internal and external partnerships and collaborations. Integrates with Sanford strategic partners including but not limited to Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Sanford Wellness, Occupational Medicine, Surgery, Trauma, etc.
Expert level working knowledge of testing equipment, such as, mechanical testing systems, motion capture, force plates, electromyography, inertial measurement unites, etc. Mastery in biomechanical analyses, computational modeling (e.g., musculoskeletal modeling, finite element modeling, machine learning, etc.), and software applications (e.g., AutoCad, MATLAB, OpenSim / SIMM, Finite Element Modeling software, Python, R, SPSS, etc.).
Demonstrates leadership within area of expertise. Guides team to solve significant problems / issues that may arise. May be accountable for business development, revenue monitoring, market share growth and provide input to policies and tactical decisions. Provides input into budget needs for the department.
Performs other duties as assigned including developing student education programs in Biomechanics including Sanford residency programs, medical students, graduate and undergraduate students through integration with academic partners and internal internships. Mentors and teaches students and oversees student projects. May teach at universities on behalf of Sanford if qualified.
Qualifications
Master of Science (MS) from an accredited institution in the major field of Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Athletic Training or other closely related discipline and a minimum of two years experience working with clients/patients in a professional setting or Doctoral (PhD) degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field.
Minimum five years relevant experience required.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
