JOB DESCRIPTION:
Epic Sports Biomechanics, LLC. is offering an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Principal Investigator. This individual should have strong leadership and business development skills with an in-depth knowledge of sports biomechanics and injury mitigation. The qualified individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our business units that include team consultations, individual assessments, tryout consultations, prospect camps, and athlete programming across a multitude of sports. The qualified individual should also have a thorough background in the use of our technologies that include marker-based motion capture, IMU-based three-dimensional motion tracking, electromyography (EMG), ground pressure technology, high-speed video capture, and ball-flight tracking systems (i.e. Rapsodo, Trackman, and HitTrax). A strong working knowledge of various physical evaluations would also be helpful. These physical assessments can include Functional Movement Screens (FMS), flexibility/mobility assessments, athletic power & strength evaluations, athleticism tests, and injury-specific screens.

The qualified individual should be able to manage a team of engineers in the design and execution of scientific experiments. The applicant should be able to demonstrate their use of the scientific method within the sports biomechanics research environment. This individual will also work closely with our leadership group to grow the business by developing client networks, scheduling meetings, and managing client outreach initiatives. The qualified applicant can expect to travel regularly for off-site projects and client meetings. A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, biomedical engineering (or other substantially similar discipline) as well as real-world experience in sports biomechanics is required.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • The development of ideas, initiatives, and activities that focus on improving the business and leading various projects
  • Direct professional interaction with all of our clients across various sports
  • Lead the design and execution of all our biomechanical tests and re-tests including skill-specific, physical, and injury mitigation assessments
  • Oversee and manage data collections associated with our biomechanical assessments
  • Manage the analysis and evaluation of team and athlete specific data sets
  • Conduct and manage all stages of data processing
  • Maintain facility equipment
  • Oversee the design and execution of all business workflow protocols
  • Schedule and organize client interactions
  • Calibrate technologies and collect data
  • Troubleshoot technological issues
  • Maintain meticulous and up-to-date catalogs of data processing statuses as well as athlete training programs
  • Mange the preparation and delivery of biomechanical reports
  • Lead business technological advancements in biomechanics
  • Conduct reviews of new and novel scientific literature

DESIRED APPLICANT CHARACTERISTICS:
  • A Ph.D. and/or Masters degree in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, kinesiology, or a similar related discipline.
  • Experience with large athlete data set analytics, computer programming, motion capture, strength & condition, and/or exercise physiology
  • Experience playing and/or coaching sports
  • A passionate self-driven and inquisitive personality focused on pushing the limits of sports biomechanics research
  • A strong background in engineering concepts, statistical analyses, and coding (Matlab, R, Python, etc.)
  • Well organized with prior experience collecting and analyzing large data sets
  • An innovative and creative personality with strong relationship building skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver high-level concepts to those with little or no engineering background
  • Possesses the ability to initiate research, and think through projects and problems independently
  • A career-driven individual who prioritizes the strategic goals of the organization
  • A passion for finding and analyzing objective scientific data to understand the movement patterns of athletic performance
  • Prioritizes long term athletic development and injury mitigation over short term gains

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Perform general athletic activities such as catching and throwing medicine balls (4 to 10 lbs)
  • Lifting and carrying 10 to 50 pounds
  • Possesses the athleticism necessary to demonstrate various warmup, cool down, and corrective exercises
  • Climbing ladders

COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time salaried position with a compensation package consistent with a professional engineer that includes bonus opportunities based on client recruitment and retention.
