    The Neuromechanics Lab at Emory University, led by Dr. Lena Ting, is looking for a research biomedical engineer.

    We use a variety of neurophysiological, biomechanical, and robotic tools to study balance and gait in healthy and motor impaired individuals. We are a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary lab innovating new ways to understand, assess, and improve sensorimotor control of movement. Self-motivated, organized, and service-oriented individuals with a curious and open mind are invited to apply here.

    BS/MS in engineering required with focus on mechanics and/or mechatronics.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    1. Experience using motion capture software (e.g. Vicon Nexus) for data collection and post-processing
    2. Experience writing custom scripts and functions for data analysis in Matlab.
    3. Experience integrating and debugging the following types of equipment/devices: EMG electrodes and amplifiers, force/torque sensors and amplifiers, EEG electrodes, servo and linear motors, force-sensing resistors, and accelerometers.
    4. Experience building and controlling mechanical and motorized devices: 3-D printing, motor controller development, sensor integration, custom electronics and circuit boards.
    Additional Job Details:
    • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tasks requiring engineering knowledge according to prescribed protocols. To include integration of hardware and software for custom laboratory equipment and interfacing with engineering support at companies.
    • Sets up and assists with experiments as prescribed by principal investigator and senior lab personnel. Ensures that adequate supplies are purchased for performing experiments.
    • Participates in laboratory maintenance activities such as calibrating sensitive equipment, repairing electronics, editing data processing code, ordering supplies, backing up data on servers, updating lab websites, and cleaning of equipment.
    • Processes data according to defined protocols using specialized engineering software such as Matlab, LabView, Python, Vicon Workstation, SolidWorks, etc.
    • Maintains records of work performed in the laboratory and maintains computer databases.
    • Under supervision maintains appropriate certifications for performance of experiments (i.e. IRB, IACUC protocols and other lab certifications)
    • Under supervision, writes custom computer code and scripts to implement new data processing methods, using matrix algebra, calculus, and differential equations, Fourier analysis, as well as other engineering analysis techniques; create accompanying graphs, tables, and other data compilation as specified by the PI.
    • Under supervision, design and construction of electrical and/or mechanical part for research purposes. Use of specialized software for electrical circuit and mechanical design, construction of parts, and/or working with engineering companies to develop designs and ensure that design specifications are met.
    • May assist with preparation of grants and papers, particularly in data analysis, figure development, and referencing.
