    What we are after

We are currently recruiting a domestic (Australia / New Zealand) PhD Student to work on a project investigating the interaction between the physical and cognitive demands associated with simulated damage control tasks in a navy setting. This project will primarily focus on the use of load monitoring technologies to understand physical performance during damage control tasks.

Candidates with a strong interest or prior experience in load monitoring and/or wearable technologies (i.e. inertial measurement units, GPS, heart rate monitoring, VO2 assessment) are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work alongside the project supervisors to measure the physiological load involved in shipboard damage control tasks and determine the impact of physical and cognitive demands on shipboard damage control performance.

    What is being offered

The successful candidate will receive a tuition fee offset and stipend (at $32,000 per annum) for 3 years, collaboratively funded by Macquarie University.

Please note this is a competitive scholarship and will be awarded to a high-calibre applicant.

    What you need to do

Contact Dr Rohan Edmonds (, Associate Professor Tim Doyle (, or Dr Jodie Wills ( to discuss this opportunity. Please include a brief statement about yourself and include copies of all your academic transcripts, PDFs of any research outputs, awards you have received, and anything else you feel is relevant to the role.

Applicants must meet Macquarie University requirements for direct enrolment in a PhD program (i.e., possess a Masters by research or relevant research experience plus a Masters by coursework). You will be required to submit a scholarship application through Macquarie University (

Ideally, we would like to have the candidate start mid 2023, but this can be negotiated with the successful applicant. The research opportunity will remain open until filled.
