The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking applicants for two Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions at the Center for Applied Biomechanics (www.centerforappliedbiomechanics.org). The candidates will be working on computational injury biomechanics research and field data analysis in automobile safety injury biomechanics within Jason Kerrigan's research group. UVA's Center for Applied Biomechanics is the largest injury biomechanics research center on earth: more than 50 faculty, staff, and students, working with six principal investigators, perform experimental, computational, and analytical injury biomechanics research from a 30,000 sq. ft. specialized research laboratory 7 miles north of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, USA.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a research focus in injury biomechanics or computational mechanics by the start date.

- At least four years’ experience in performing academic research.
- Proven record of scientific publication and presentation.
Preferred applicants will:
- Have experience and expertise in a variety of computational mechanics methodologies.
- Have experience in vehicle crash injury field data analysis and machine learning methods.
- Have experience in academic teaching and/or graduate student mentorship.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform computational simulations of vehicle crashes and other injury causation scenarios.
- Perform injury biomechanics experiments.
- Query crash and injury databases.
- Analyze data. Assist in the development of research funding proposals.
- Develop research plans to execute multi-faceted studies and supervise the efforts of graduate students and other personnel.
- Prepare reports, publications, and presentations of research findings for dissemination to research sponsors and the scientific community.
