The Computational Biosciences Laboratory at Boise State University is seeking a highly motivated individual to pursue a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering. Start date is August 2023 (preferred) or January 2024. This is a fully-funded assistantship which covers tuition, health insurance, and a competitive stipend. Applicants should have strong interest in computational modeling and biological systems. The PhD student will develop a library of finite element models of the natural and implanted knee joint and validate these models against experimental data. The objective of the project is to develop data-driven computational models to understand the effect of surgical intervention on the joint. The student will also have the opportunity to work with members of the orthopaedic industry.
Ideal qualifications for this PhD assistantship include:
* MS degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering or computer science or BS degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering or computer science with prior research experience
* Knowledge of finite element analysis and proficiency with commercial FE codes
* Knowledge of knee biomechanics
* Knowledge of musculoskeletal modeling/simulation tools/techniques
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Proficiency with programming languages
* Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
The Computational Biosciences Laboratory collaborates with research groups in biological sciences, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and kinesiology, and the successful applicant should expect to develop an interdisciplinary skillset over the course of their doctoral studies.
