  • Research Engineer - UVA Center for Applied Biomechanics

    The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking applicants for a Research Engineer position at the Center for Applied Biomechanics. General duties will include managing complex computational projects including designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on results. The Research Engineer will assist in the development of new research projects and will help supervise graduate research assistants, technical staff, and junior researchers on project-specific tasks.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    - An M.S. or equivalent degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, with a research emphasis in biomechanics or a closely related field, by the start date.
    - A minimum of three years of experience in biomechanics. Experience should include the following:
    - Demonstrated experience with biomechanics simulation, with a preference towards developing and using finite element (FE) models in LS-Dyna.
    - Fundamental understanding of the mechanics associated with high-rate loading to the human body from scenarios found in sports, automotive, or military impact.
    - Experience in the design of experiments (DOE) for parametric analysis or other data analysis techniques
    - Proficiency in the development and implementation of advanced data analysis algorithms in a common scientific programming language (e.g., Matlab, Python)
    - Demonstrable knowledge in statistical analyses for quantitative hypothesis testing
    - Minimum of three years of demonstrable proficiency in high-quality technical writing.
    - Demonstrate experience in working with a diverse group of researchers and sponsors or varying technical expertise.

    This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Bachelor's degree
    Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience. Master's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
    Licensure: None.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
