  • Available Immediately - Fully funded PhD Assistantship for Certified Athletic Trainer at Old Dominion University

The College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University has partnered with Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) to provide a fully funded PhD Assistantship. The person in this position would provide athletic training services for 20 hours per week to NPS as their assistantship assignment. In return, this person will receive a $20,000 stipend for the Fall/Spring semesters (with the potential of another $5,000 stipend in the summer) and a full tuition waiver (up to 9 credits per semester) for in-state or out-of-state tuition. The student will be a part of the Kinesiology & Rehabilitation PhD program that is housed in the College of Health Sciences, which is home to ~20 doctoral students studying a variety of questions related to mobility, rehabilitation, daily functional activities, communication, and swallowing in individuals with and without physical or neurologic impairments.

This position is available immediately, as NSP needs this position filled by the middle of August. Interested parties would need to be successfully admitted to the Kinesiology & Rehabilitation PhD Program, for which the GRE is currently optional. They would also need to be a Certified Athletic Trainer prior to admission, but licensure in the state of Virginia is not needed prior to their application (so long as they apply for VA licensure before mid-August). If interested, please contact Dr. Christopher K. Rhea (crhea@odu.edu), Associate Dean for Research & Innovation in the ODU College of Health Sciences.
