The Biomechanics Department of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) seeks candidates for a three-year postdoctoral position in Computational Foot & Ankle Biomechanics. The selected candidate will participate in basic science and translational research projects in total ankle arthroplasty and progressive collapsing foot deformity. The candidate will be expected to develop computational models and assist in dynamic cadaveric experiments to inform and validate these models and help answer important clinical research questions. Mentoring and training will be provided by the Biomechanics staff at the hospital in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons from the Foot & Ankle Service, biostatisticians, and radiologists, providing a multidisciplinary experience. Possibilities exist for NIH support through a T32 training program at the Hospital and the TL1/KL2 program at Weill Cornell Medical College’s Clinical and Translational Science Center for applicants who are citizens of the United States or green card holders.

Responsibilities:
- Continue to develop our computational foot & ankle modeling workflow to inform clinical decisions related to total ankle arthroplasty and progressive collapsing foot deformity
- Integrate data from dynamic cadaver experiments to inform and validate computational models
- Collaborate closely with orthopaedic foot & ankle surgeons, research engineers, radiologists, and statisticians
- Train and advise engineering undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and orthopaedic residents and fellows who will participate in research projects
- Disseminate findings at national and international conferences and through publication in peer-reviewed clinical or engineering journals
The ideal candidate would have:
- A Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or equivalent and relevant specialty
- Prior experience in clinical and translational biomechanics research
- Experience in clinical image processing for computational modeling
- Extensive experience in finite element modeling (Abaqus or FEBio preferred)
- Extensive experience in programming and scripting (MATLAB, Python, etc.)
- Experience with CAD and reverse engineering software (SolidWorks, 3D Systems Geomagic Wrap and Design X, etc.)
- Knowledge of multibody dynamics software or other musculoskeletal modeling software (MSC ADAMS, OpenSim, etc.)
- Experience of
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Exceptional writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
