Description
Chapman University invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor for the Department of Physical Therapy in Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. We seek a faculty member who has the potential to establish an innovative and impactful research agenda in an area relevant to physical therapy/rehabilitation science, and to contribute to excellence in physical therapy education.
Continually accredited since 1928, the Department of Physical Therapy has a rich tradition as one of the oldest physical therapy programs in the United States. The program graduates two cohorts of forty students each year. Facilities within the Department of Physical Therapy feature advanced motion analysis and Motek/GRAIL laboratories and include a comprehensive range of biomechanical, neurophysiological, and cardiovascular research tools.
The Department of Physical Therapy is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The campus is also the home of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences (Brain Institute), offering additional outstanding facilities for neurophysiological and neuromodulation research. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will hold a terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D. D.Sc., Ed. D or equivalent) in a clinically relevant field such as movement/rehabilitation science, exercise science, biomechanics, epidemiology, kinesiology, neuroscience, or other health sciences. Candidates should have the potential to establish a collaborative and extramurally funded research program. Current research conducted by physical therapy faculty at Chapman examines non-pharmacological rehabilitation strategies for chronic pain management, as well as biomechanical and neurological aspects of typical/atypical movement in multiple patient populations across the lifespan. These include individuals with musculoskeletal disorders and neurological dysfunction. Strong candidates will have a research agenda that complements or extends current Departmental research. Candidates who hold licensure as a physical therapist (or eligibility for licensure in California) are highly preferred for this position.

Responsibilities
- Establish productive line of research and secure extramural funding.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with physical therapy faculty and Chapman collaborators in the fields of musculoskeletal pain disorders, applied neuroscience, geriatrics, pediatrics, health psychology, or other areas to foster collaborative research and enhance the student learning experience.
- Teach in area(s) of expertise and curricular need in the DPT program. Teaching load is negotiable based on research excellence and extramural funding. Candidates are expected to provide academic, professional, and research mentorship to doctoral physical therapy students.
- Candidates with combined PhD and PT credentials will be expected to maintain clinical licensure.
- Perform academic and professional service at a level commensurate with rank.
