The Division of Health & Exercise Science invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Exercise Science. Candidates with teaching experience, an established research program, and experience with service at the university, professional, and/or community levels are encouraged to apply.
The teaching load is three, 4-credit courses per quarter with a primary responsibility for Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Motor Behavior, and seminars/courses in the applicant’s specialty areas (e.g. Pathomechanics). Engaging in high-impact educational practices, exercise science-related scholarship, and providing meaningful service to the division, university and profession is expected. In Fall of 2024, the Division will launch a Master’s in Human Wellness and Performance; teaching load will likely include classes at the graduate level.
In a space that is approximately 2000 square feet, our biomechanics and exercise physiology labs have up-to-date equipment that allows for experiential lab-based classes as well as faculty and student-directed research. Equipment specific to the biomechanics lab includes two in-ground force plates and a multi-camera motion capture system. The neighboring exercise physiology lab also includes two treadmills and ParvoMedics metabolic carts for graded exercise testing, eight Monark leg ergometers, a MP35 and two Biopac MP150 systems and a variety of sensors to perform a wide range of physiological tests for both research and instructional activities, a BodPod for body composition using air displacement plethysmography, skinfold calipers, and other equipment that permits the measurement of mechanomyography, electromyography, electroencephalography, and skeletal muscle force production.
Successful candidates will join a dynamic, student-centered, and collegial division with 9 other tenure-track faculty and several non-tenure track faculty (please see our website at https://wou.edu/hexs/). Exercise Science is the fifth largest major on campus, with approximately 200 students. Forty-eight percent of our majors identify as students of color, 82% are full-time enrolled with many of our students working at least part-time, and ~41% are women.
Minimum Requirements: Earned Doctorate (Ph.D., Dr. P.H., or Ed.D.) in exercise science, kinesiology, or closely related field (e.g. DPT) is required (ABD considered if degree requirements are completed prior to September 20, 2024).
