The Rehabilitation and Augmentation Lab at the University of California, Irvine seeks to improve human mobility using assistive wearable devices. We are particularly interested in creating technology that enhances rehabilitation and gait training after motor impairment, as well as understanding the mechanisms behind motor learning.
We are currently seeking up to two doctoral (Ph.D.) students to join our research team, starting in Fall 2024. Student responsibilities will include designing and building wearable robotic devices, developing innovative control approaches, and exploring novel training methods for gait rehabilitation. In addition, students will conduct and assist with experimental data collection, data processing and analysis, and co-authoring manuscripts. Students will also have opportunities for collaboration, as well as mentoring, teaching, and professional development.
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, exercise science, or a related field. Previous research experience and/or coursework related to mechanical design, control systems, human motor control, biomechanics, and gait are highly desirable. Strong programming skills preferred.
Interested applicants should email Prof. Sasha Voloshina (avoloshi [at] uci.edu) with the subject line “PhD student application.” In your email, please briefly describe your research interests, qualifications, and career goals. Please include a .pdf of your CV. Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received and will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
