The Functional Biomechanics Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Anne Silverman at the Colorado School of Mines is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to engage in research in the areas of advanced muscle modeling, neuromuscular function, and movement biomechanics. The Functional Biomechanics Laboratory characterizes human whole-body movement with a strong focus in musculoskeletal modeling. Our research uses experimental and computational approaches to understand fundamental mechanisms of movement to improve mobility, guide clinical intervention, prevent injury, and optimize performance for every individual. The postdoctoral scholar will be directly supported by the Integrative Movement Sciences Institute (IMSI), funded by the National Science Foundation, with opportunities to engage with an outstanding network of collaborating scientists across the world.
In addition to the broad IMSI network, this position will integrate closely with the Nishikawa Biomechanics Laboratory at Northern Arizona University (PI: Kiisa Nishikawa) and the Neuromechanics Laboratory at the University of California Irvine (PI: Monica Daley). This position will bridge our understanding of muscle function at the molecular and tissue level to that at the whole-body movement level, integrating novel models of muscle contraction to explore unsteady movement dynamics. This work will generate new knowledge of muscular control of agile movement, with applications to device, therapy, and training interventions. The Integrative Movement Sciences Institute will facilitate broad opportunities for mentorship, networking, and travel with affiliated research laboratories.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Development of whole-body musculoskeletal modeling frameworks that incorporate novel muscle model behavior
- Development of movement simulations of unsteady movement
- Experimental biomechanical protocol development and execution of whole-body and joint level biomechanics
- Organization of research projects to be implemented in the Integrative Movement Sciences Summer Institute
- Technical presentation of research results through conference presentations and journal publications
- Mentorship of junior scientists in mini research projects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- PhD in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or other related field
- Certified in CITI Protection of Human Subjects
- Expertise in musculoskeletal modeling, musculoskeletal biomechanics, and neuromotor control.
- Experience in communicating effectively in a collaborative team environment across disparate locations.
- Advanced knowledge of musculoskeletal modeling and simulation approaches in OpenSim.
