Open Faculty position - Rehabilitation Engineering, Prosthetics/Orthotics - Northwestern University
The Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC) of the NU Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure-eligible faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor for research and education opportunities. NUPOC operates two clinical education programs: 1) The Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO) is an innovative blended-learning program that is the largest and oldest accredited P&O training institution in the Western Hemisphere. 2) The Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics Research (MPO-R) is a new dual-training degree program that allows selected students to combine their clinical training with advanced rehabilitation research skills. NUPOC houses the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Motion Analysis Research Laboratory, a state-of-the-art laboratory for biomechanical measurement of human movement, and will soon be opening a new motion analysis laboratory featuring a Motek M-Gait system with a split-belt instrumented treadmill and projection screen.
The selected candidate will complement and expand a thriving and long-standing research program involving multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, clinicians, and other rehabilitation scientists. Some of the duties of this role include, but are not limited to:
Ideal candidates will have obtained a Doctorate from an accredited university. A Doctorate in an Engineering specialty, Prosthetics-Orthotics, Biomechanics, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, or related discipline is strongly preferred. At least 2 years of Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.
This full-time position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. - Develop a research program portfolio independently and in collaboration with others, within and outside of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and within and outside of Northwestern University, by conducting research related to prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation, applied biomechanics, or biomedical engineering.
- Submit research grant proposals and secure extramural research funding related to rehabilitation and/or prosthetics and orthotics.
- Provide teaching and mentorship for MPO and MPO-R, medical, undergraduate, and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members.
- Write and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present at national or international conferences to disseminate research.
- Participate in Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation activities, as requested by the Department Chair.
