  • Funded PhD Position at the University of Georgia

The UGA Concussion Research Center and UGA Biomechanics Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia are seeking qualified graduate students at the PhD level. Dr. Rob Lynall and Dr. Julianne Schmidt co-direct the UGA Concussion Research Center and the UGA Biomechanics Laboratory and offer research experiences that combine clinical concussion management and biomechanics. Areas of interest include neuromuscular factors contributing to musculoskeletal injury risk after concussion, head impact biomechanics, concussion assessment and management, post-concussion driving, and lower extremity injury risk. The Kinesiology PhD program is research-focused and designed for advanced study and research related to the application of biomechanical principles to human performance and injury. The degree may lead to careers in college/university research and teaching, industry biomechanics, laboratory research, teaching, and military research, among others.

Assistantships are competitive, based on students’ strengths and experiences, include financial assistance, and may include tuition remission. Most are 1 year in length and are renewable. Assistantships may be based on research and/or teaching within the department, including exercise science courses, labs, and physical activity courses.

    Applicants should have:
    1. A masters’ (or clinical doctorate) degree in one of the following fields: biomechanics, athletic training, physical therapy, biomedical engineering, or other exercise science related field.
    2. Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills including basic computer skills.
    3. Evidence of interest and experience in human subjects research, including motion analysis, clinical, or translational research.
