As a Senior Biomechanist, you will ensure the provision of expert specialized applied sport biomechanics services to Aspire coaches, athletes, and related Sport Science and Medicine professionals.

    You are: going to conduct planning, testing, data analysis, dissemination of results, and relevant applied research resulting in improved biomechanical service, in accordance with the aims and objectives of Aspire Academy. You will work alongside coaches to provide meaningful observations and contributions to athlete development and you will also assist in providing leadership and direction to the operations of the Biomechanics and Performance Analysis Unit. Central to this position is the need to import and implement new concepts and technology to develop cutting-edge analyses in sports biomechanics.

    What will you do - Main responsibilities:
    • Ensure the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality control procedures and accuracy of analysis within Aspire’s Sports Biomechanics unit
    • Conduct needs analysis of athletics and racket sports and prepare annual support plan with head/lead coaches
    • Design, establish, implement and interpret quality-assured field and laboratory sports biomechanics test protocols in consultation with sports scientists, coaches, and athletes
    • Collect biomechanical data during training and competition in order to better understand the biomechanical requirements of the sport
    • Develop analytical routines to process raw biomechanical data, and reduce derived metrics into usable information
    • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a database of test results from the field and laboratory
    • Prepare and review comprehensive reports for coaches and athletes including the interpretation of results
    • Provide state-of-the-art information on biomechanical analysis to optimize technique and minimize injury to coaches and athletes
    • Conduct, commission, or collaborate on applied research projects which contribute to improving the effectiveness of the coach and athlete in training and competition
    • Monitor new developments in the field of sports science in general and sport biomechanics in particular
    • Keep up to date with the scientific literature by attending relevant national and international conferences, congresses, seminars, and workshops
    • Write, present, and publish results of applied research in internationally recognized journals
    • Contribute to coach, athlete, and staff education by presenting lectures, seminars, and workshops on relevant topics.
    • Maintain liaison with international sport science personnel and sports institutes/academies

    Qualifications and requirements:
    • 5-7 years of related experience of which a minimum of 3 years experience in a high-performance sport environment working directly with coaches and athletes, or as per the Director of the Department.
    • Postgraduate University qualification (MSc / Ph.D.) in sports science with a speciality in Biomechanics.
    • Experience of working in inter-professional teams using biomechanical information feeds into the holistic development of athletes
    • Working knowledge of growth-related issues and injury risk in youth athletes
    • Highly competent in the use of technologies to assess performance, including but not restricted to video, high speed video, force platforms, isokinetic dynamometry, accelerometry, GPS
    • Competent with data analytical software (MS Excel, R, Python, Labview, Matlab etc)
    • Holding a coaching award in one or more Aspire core sports is desirable (Squash, Table Tennis, Padel, Athletics, Fencing, Swimming)
    • Must possess strong technical and computer abilities and strong problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Experience in working with Athlete Management System (e.g. Smartbase / Teamworks) is desirable
    • Competent in developing applied research projects
    • Works effectively with people from all backgrounds and cultures and demonstrates flexibility.
    • Can effectively reorganize activities when faced with changing contexts and demands
    • Strong decision-making skills, quick thinking, intelligence, and articulation.
