The Applied Biomechanics Laboratory (abl.bme.unc.edu) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a new fully NIH-Funded PhD position in Biomedical Engineering in the areas of biomedical imaging (MRI, biplane videoradiography), gait biofeedback, and computational simulation for precision rehabilitation in those at risk for knee osteoarthritis. The student will start in the Fall 2025 semester and will receive mentorship and training from a collaborative team of research partners spanning Biomedical Engineering, Exercise Science, and Orthopaedics.
Highly-qualified applicants will have completed their undergraduate and potentially masters degree training in biomedical engineering, biomechanics, human movement science, or related field, have previous research and programming experience, and have a well-articulated vision for why they are pursuing a PhD.
Our laboratory is uniquely positioned in the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering (bme.unc.edu), which integrates the exceptional strengths of the UNC Chapel Hill College of Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine and the NC State University College of Engineering. Together, this facilitates meaningful and productive collaborations between scientists, engineers, and clinicians and offers tremendous opportunities for professional development. The Applied Biomechanics Laboratory offers state-of-the-art and dedicated facilities to support the applicants’ research.
