    The Cashaback Research Group has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher. We are interested in hiring a postdoctoral fellow to study the co-adaptation between human-agent and human-human pairs. We are located in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware. Our research falls under three major themes. 1) The sensorimotor learning and neuroplasticity research line examines how reinforcement feedback can subserve our ability to acquire new motor skills. 2) The human-human interaction research line examines how humans use sensory feedback to discover a partner’s movement intention and goals when selecting joint actions. 3) The neuromechanics line of research investigates how the sensorimotor system controls the complex physics of our bodies while striking a balance between efficiency, mobility and stability. Our approach involves a complementary blend of human experiments, theory and computational modelling.

    Compensation for this position will be at or above NIH guidelines, and will include a competitive benefits package offered by the University of Delaware. Postdoctoral researchers are eligible for re- newable, annual contracts pending satisfactory progress and continued funding. Currently we are able to offer two years of funding.

    Our lab is located at STAR campus. STAR houses state-of-the art equipment and facilities. The lab is equipped with a KINARM, where human participants are immersed in a cutting-edge, virtual reality and robotic suite. We have a particularly unique KINARM that allows us to run studies where two participants can interact with each other in real-time while performing the same motor task. Other equipment and techniques include EMG, MRI, nerve and muscle stimulators. There is also the opportunity to work with clinical populations, as STAR has readily available access to patients with neurological disorders that come to receive therapy and participate in scientific research.

    Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctorate in Engineering, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have experience with human participants and a computational background, and we will encourage further skill development in these areas. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in two or more of the following areas: (1) human data collections (2) learning models, (3) optimal control (4) game-theory (5) robotics (6) clinical experience. Candidates must be motivated, curious, demonstrate good scientific communication, enthusiastic for interdisciplinary research and collaboration, and eager to mentor both graduate and undergraduate students.
