  • MS Assistantships - Montana State University

The Neuromuscular Biomechanics Laboratory at Montana State University has openings for multiple MS level graduate assistantships starting in Fall 2025 semester. We are specifically looking for students with research interests in applied winter sport, especially Nordic skiing, biathlon, and ski mountaineering. The laboratory is the official sport science partner for US Biathlon Association and student work will focus on providing scientific support services for US National Team athletes, community Nordic Skiing and biathlon teams, as well as MSU Athletic teams. We also have industry partnerships with several ski companies and students may work on sponsored projects testing different ski equipment.

Interested students should have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics, or engineering. Experience conducting human subjects research, and familiarity with biomechanics laboratory instrumentation (motion capture, force plates, EMG, IMUs, metabolic carts, plantar pressure systems) are a plus.

As part of the assistantship students will be expected to teach laboratory sections of undergraduate courses in Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, or other courses as needed. Assistantships come with a tuition waiver for up to 12 credits per semester and a monthly stipend.

Interested students should contact Dr. James Becker (james.becker4@montana.edu) to discuss their experience and suitability prior to applying.
