The Western Engineering for Spine and Trauma (WEST) Lab (Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario, Canada) are seeking applications from talented and motivated PhD students (International, Canadian citizen or Permanent Residents) and Master’s students (Canadian citizen or Permanent Residents only).

WEST Lab is a part of The University of Western Ontario, and is a collaborative academic research group consisting of engineers and orthopaedic surgeons, using engineering methods, techniques and approaches to address major research questions in orthopaedic surgery. Students at WEST Lab will work within Victoria Hospital, and collaborate directly with surgeons.

Desired student profile
Masters PhD
A strong interest in applications to medical problems (specifically orthopedic trauma/spine)
Excellent grades, well-rounded students.
Good communication and project management skills.
Previous conference or journal publications are desirable.
Ideally have a Bachelor’s degree/be near completion in a relevant engineering field, e.g. mechanical, biomedical, or related fields. Ideally have a Masters/be near completion in a relevant engineering field, e.g. mechanical, biomedical, or related fields.
Previous experience with: CAD+FEA, computer vision + deep learning, and mechanical bench testing for validation. Self-motivated and independent with a strong background in: CAD+FEA, computer vision + deep learning, and mechanical bench testing for validation.
Previous experience with: Solidworks, FEA software (Abaqus, ANSYS), Python Hands-on experience with: Solidworks, FEA software (Abaqus, ANSYS), Python
Keen to supervise undergraduate students Keen to supervise Masters/undergraduate students
