The Perry Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to building the talent pipeline in engineering and medicine, with a particular emphasis on medical device design, biomechanics, and orthopaedic surgery. The organization advances its mission through unique hands-on curriculum and exposure programs, namely: (1) day-long extracurricular programs for high school students (POP – Perry Outreach Program); (2) hands-on seminars for medical students (MSOP – Medical Student Outreach Program); and (3) laboratory exercises for middle, high school, and college classrooms (OIA – Orthopaedics In Action). Since 2009, The Perry Initiative reaches approximately 3,000 students annually through its exposure programs and another 150k per year in classrooms nationwide.
The Program Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring that quality programming is reproduced consistently and the tested curriculum is maintained in excellent working order for all Perry Outreach Program sites nationwide, by working closely with the Executive Director to plan and execute program logistics and maintain inventory and supplies. This key position maintains the behind the scenes operational excellence required to achieve the organization’s ambitious outreach and mentorship goals. The Program Coordinator is the public point of contact for the organization and maintains positive relationships with all host site partners, volunteers, parents and students.
