The Exercise, Sport and Movement Sciences (ESMS) unit within the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at The University of Memphis has a doctoral-level graduate assistantship in the concentration of Applied Biomechanics with Dr. Yiyang Chen beginning Fall 2025.
The assistantship may include a combination of research within the Musculoskeletal Analysis Laboratory and instruction of undergraduate courses (e.g., Anatomic Kinesiology, Biomechanics Lab, Lab Techniques, etc...). The assistantship is a 12-month appointment and includes a monthly stipend (yearly stipend increase; and possible additional compensation available for teaching during summer months) and full tuition waivers for the entire program period (three to five years depending on prior experience/training).
Research Details: The focus of the research will be on movement coordination, fatigue, injuries, wearables, and performance in occupational and sport settings. Prior research experience in the field of biomechanics, motor control, and sports science/training including experience with biomechanics/physiology research instruments, study management, participant recruitment, IRB training, data collections, data analyses and MATLAB/python skills are desired. Good communication skills, teamwork, and being able to work independently are also desired.
