  • PhD position UNLV

The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences is looking for highly motivated applicants interested in earning a Ph.D. with an emphasis in Biomechanics. Prospective students will be able to select from the current Interdisciplinary Health Sciences doctoral program or the upcoming Interdisciplinary Sports Science doctoral program (pending approval). The accepted applicant will begin in Fall 2026 and will support research in lower extremity injuries and gait. The ideal candidate will have experience with 3d motion capture and analysis. Pending funding, the student will receive a graduate assistantship that includes a 9-month stipend, tuition waiver and health insurance as described by the UNLV Graduate College (https://www.unlv.edu/graduatecollege). Assistantship expectations involve both teaching and research responsibilities. Current ongoing research focuses on lower extremity injury prevention from the perspective of running and walking mechanics. Additionally, we currently have projects investigating how activities in circus performers (spinning and jumping) lead to changes in gait and injury risk. Please see Dr. Freedman Silvernail’s Google Scholar page for more information about on her research agenda and interests.
Qualifications include: (1) M.S. in Biomechanics, Engineering, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field; (2) common research interests in ongoing laboratory projects; (3) experience in gait analysis, Visual 3d and Matlab programming would be preferred.
If interested please email Dr. Freedman Silvernail (jfs@unlv.edu) with your CV and a brief summary of your research interests.
