  • MASc / PhD Positions – Biomechanical Engineering (University of Guelph, Canada)

Applications are invited for fully funded MASc and/or PhD positions in an NSERC-funded research program at the University of Guelph focused on wearable technologies to assess dynamic knee instability.

The research aims to develop novel wearable perturbation devices and sensor-based systems to objectively quantify knee instability during functional movement (e.g., walking, stairs). Projects may combine experimental biomechanics (motion capture, force plates, EMG, IMUs) with computational modelling and simulation, including signal processing, machine learning, and human–device interaction analysis.

Applicants should have a background in mechanical, biomedical, electrical, or computer engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or biomechanics. Prior research, clinical, or industry experience related to biomechanics, rehabilitation, medical devices, or wearables will be considered an asset.

The lab offers an inclusive, collaborative research environment with strong support for publication and professional development.

Supervisor: Dr. Scott C. E. Brandon (Associate Professor, Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering: https://www.uoguelph.ca/engineering/...andon-phd-peng)
    Start date: Flexible (2026 preferred)
Funding: Fully funded + TA opportunities

To apply, please email a brief statement of interest (MASc or PhD), CV, unofficial transcripts, and references to: scott.brandon@uoguelph.ca
