  • Funded PhD Scholarship exploring the fit, comfort, and functionality of mounted police protective equipment - University of Huddersfield, UK

We are seeking applicants for a fully-funded PhD scholarship at the University of Huddersfield (UK), exploring the fit, comfort, and functionality of mounted police protective equipment.

The project will be supervised by Dr Joanna Blackburn (The University of Huddersfield) and Dr Sean hudson (York St John University) and will be conducted in collaboration with regional mounted police units in the UK.

The findings will generate practical evidence to inform the design of safer, more comfortable, and more functional protective equipment, with the potential to improve officer welfare, enhance operational performance, and contribute to future national standards for mounted police equipment.

You can find more information about the position and how to apply by clicking on the Feasibility of Improving PPE project at https://www.hud.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/research-scholarships/health-science-and-healthcare/

Please email Dr Joanna Blackburn (J.Blackburn3@hud.ac.uk) or Dr Sean Hudson (s.hudson@yorksj.ac.uk) if you have any questions.

    Application deadline - Friday 19th June 2026
Funding - 3 years full-time research covering tuition fees and a tax-free bursary (stipend) starting at 21,805 GBP for 2026/27
