  • PhD Opportunities – Rehabilitation Modeling Laboratory, University of Delaware

    Dear Biomch-L Community,

The Rehabilitation Modeling (ReModel) Laboratory (PI: Russell Johnson) at the University of Delaware is seeking two PhD students to join our new research group. Dr. Johnson is an incoming PI at UD and is actively recruiting students interested in advancing research at the intersection of musculoskeletal modeling, biomechanics, and gait rehabilitation.

Successful applicants will be enrolled in the BIOMS (Biomechanics and Movement Science) PhD program at UD, a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary training environment that integrates engineering, human movement science, and clinical practice to drive impactful rehabilitation research.

Our lab focuses on developing and applying computational tools to understand human movement and improve rehabilitation outcomes. Please see the Google Form below for more details about the research objectives for each of the two open positions.

Preferred Start Date: Spring 2027 (flexible)

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in kinesiology, engineering, physical therapy, or a related field.

    Strongly Preferred Experience:
    • Musculoskeletal modeling (e.g., OpenSim or similar platforms)
    • CAD, MATLAB, Python, and/or optimization methods

Application Process: Interested candidates should complete the screening survey below. Competitive applicants will be contacted with further instructions regarding the full application process. Screening will occur on a rolling basis.
